Our History
We’ve been married for 9 years, but together for 16. Our high school wasn’t huge, so we knew about each other before we really got to know each other. Then on the first day of our Junior year we were paired up as lab partners in our chemistry class. It was a classic story of opposites attract (Shane is the outgoing one while Kim prefers to stay in and read a book), but we’ve always shared the same values and we complement each other very well. We spent our time in high school and college growing up together instead of growing apart.
While we spent our first year of college in different parts of the state, Kim moved down to Southern California the next year to be closer to Shane. Shane proposed on Christmas Eve, 6 years after we started dating, and we were married in October of the next year. We surprised everyone at our wedding ceremony by walking down the aisle to the James Bond theme song – we even got our pastor to rappel into the service! (check it out here for a good laugh)
We both graduated from Vanguard University of Southern California with our bachelor’s degrees in 2010, and we moved back home to the Bay Area in 2011 after having spent the past seven years in SoCal.
Our lives now
Shane is very involved with his community; he really embodies his favorite quote of “a life lived for others is a life worth living”. Kim is more of a homebody who likes to help out in behind-the-scenes ways. We attend church and are both continually working on being present and involved with our friends, family, and community.
We own a spacious townhome in a quiet neighborhood in the middle of Silicon Valley. Our community has a gated pool, and Kim loves that our local library is close by (walking to the library with her mom was one of her favorite childhood memories). We’re also within walking distance of the local elementary school and high school, as well as several parks and playgrounds. We love spending time in our backyard and Shane loves to bbq on warm evenings.
Our financial situation is stable. We don’t carry consumer debt and we are able to live in the Bay Area comfortably in a home that we own. We keep to a monthly budget and can’t wait to add a college saving plan to it.
Shane has a thriving business that will allow Kim to stay at home as soon as we have a child. When we need help, our friends and the members of our family who live close by have offered to help out in whatever way we need.
Our hopes for the future
Our faith is a very important aspect of our lives, so we’re excited to share God’s love with our child; Our deepest hope is that our child grows up in a family where they know how deeply God loves them.
We don’t believe that a one-size-fits-all approach is helpful when it comes to anything, especially parenting and family. We hope to create a family environment where our child feels fully accepted, loved, and supported no matter what. We’re excited to help our child excel in whatever they choose to do with their lives.
