A “home study is a document prepared by a licensed social worker in your state that examines every aspect of your family’s life. It includes finances, health, marital history, background checks, your feelings about adoption, why you are pursuing adoption, relationships with extended family, anticipation of parenting styles, and a description of your home and neighborhood.” (adoption.org, ). Once your home study is complete, you are eligible to adopt a child.
We were told it generally takes 3 months to complete the paperwork needed for the home study. We did it in 2 weeks. To those who know Shane, it will come as no surprise that he dove into this process head first; he made lists, coordinated all the training and classes, and kept us on track.
As of last week we have been approved for domestic adoption! To kick off the next leg of our journey, we’re giving a talk at our local Rotary club on 1/8.
From here on out, we are going to do our best to keep everyone in the know about what our process has been like. We are so excited to know that the child that we are meant to have in our lives will be here.
Don’t hesitate to let us know more about what you want to hear 🙂 You can also subscribe to the blog for future updates.
